Our work extends beyond rescue

community initiatives

We welcome visitors through small, thoughtfully structured programs and events that support education, connection, and healing. All programs and visits are intentionally limited and spaced out over time so as not to stress our animals or disrupt the ecosystem we’ve created.

Through these community programs, we hope to inspire a more ethical and informed approach to horsemanship for the next generation and foster a deeper connection between horses and humans.

Educational & community outreach Programs

Our educational programs are centered around teaching children responsible farming practices and ethical animal care.

We partner with local schools, Brownie groups, Girl Scouts, and similar organizations to provide opportunities for children to learn about:

  • Ethical animal care and horsemanship
  • Responsible Farming Practices
  • Ways to reduce our carbon footprint

We also share the stories of each resident at Buddha Barn - how they came into our care and what we can do to better their future.

As we continue to grow, we hope to expand these efforts to include programs for children in the foster care system, as well as adolescents and children navigating trauma and other challenges.

Our goal is to inspire a more ethical and informed approach to horsemanship in the next generation.

Therapeutic Programs

Buddha Barn also incorporates private therapeutic programs.

These programs are designed for children and adolescents in need, with participants selected through recommendations from caregivers and teachers. It is powerful to witness the connection that forms between horse and human - particularly for those who have experienced trauma.

Many of these experiences involve hands-on interaction and repeat visits, allowing relationships to build over time and fostering familiarity, trust, and comfort.

private tours & wellness events

We offer private tours, as well as yoga and wellness events in very limited quantities.

All events are intentionally spaced out and structured to avoid disruption to our schedule and our primary focus on creating sanctuary for our residents.

These opportunities are only offered when they are mutually beneficial - supporting both the people who visit and the animals who live here.

Above all, our community initiatives are intended to support the horses and donkeys who call buddha barn home and foster a deeper connection between horse and human
